Chania is not only one of the most beautiful destinations in Crete. It is also a city where you can discover tango, take your first steps, develop your dancing, or simply find an embrace and a milonga where you can dance.

Whether you live in Chania or are visiting the city on holiday, there are different ways to become part of the local tango community.

Tango Classes in Chania

You don't need any previous experience to start tango. Beginner classes focus on the fundamental principles of the dance: the embrace, communication within the couple, walking, musicality, and improvisation.

For those who already dance, classes and workshops can focus more deeply on technique, quality of movement, connection, and musical interpretation.

At 4Tango, classes and activities are available for different levels, with the aim of developing not only steps but also an understanding of tango as a social and improvised dance.

If you're thinking about starting tango, read our guide with everything you need to know before your first tango class.

What Is a Práctica?

A práctica is a space where we can practise what we learn. Unlike a structured class, there is more freedom to experiment, repeat movements, dance with different people, and work on specific aspects of our dancing.

For a new dancer, it is also a great way to get to know the tango community before attending a milonga for the first time.

If you'd like to learn more, read our detailed guide to the práctica and its role in developing your dancing.

Where Can I Dance Tango in Chania?

At 4Tango Dance Studio, in the centre of Chania, we organise tango classes, prácticas, milongas, and other tango activities.

At the same time, other tango evenings and activities are organised by people and groups within the wider tango community of Chania.

If you're visiting Chania and would like to dance, it's always a good idea to check the current schedule before attending an event, as days and venues may change.

Visiting Chania and Already Dance Tango?

Bring your tango shoes with you.

Travelling tango dancers are always a wonderful part of a local community. A milonga can offer a different way to experience Chania: not only as a visitor, but through people who share the same love of tango.

If you're spending a few days in Crete, check the current schedule or contact us to find out what's happening while you're in town.

Would You Like to Start Tango?

You don't need to know any steps, have previous experience, or wait until you feel “ready”.

Tango is learned gradually: through movement, music, communication, and – above all – dancing with other people.

If you're in Chania and would like to discover tango, come and meet us.

See the 4Tango schedule for upcoming tango classes, prácticas, and milongas in Chania.

If you're planning to attend a milonga for the first time, read our guide to what a milonga is and what to expect on your first visit.
